Q: How can I find my friends in the app?

A: You can search for friends from the Like-Minded view (tap “Like-Minded” from the Main Menu). Just pull down to reveal the search bar and search users by screen name.

If your friends are not yet Votopin users, you can invite them via email, SMS text message, or Facebook directly from your profile view! Tap the person icon at the top right of the screen.

Q: How do I follow people?

A: You can follow anyone in the app, whether it be a friend, a likeminded user, or someone whose opinions you enjoy! Once you’ve decided whom you want to follow all you need to do is view his or her profile and tap the eye icon at the bottom left of the screen (red means that you are following them!).

Q: How do I start a private chat with someone?

A: You can initiate a private chat with anyone in the app, whether it be a friend, a likeminded user, or even someone whose opinions you don’t agree with- talk about a great way to learn something new!

Once you’ve decided whom you want to chat with, all you need to do is view his or her profile and tap the chat icon at the bottom right of the screen.

You can access your existing conversations by tapping “Chats” from the Main Menu. Scroll through the list or pull down to search chats by user screen name.

Q: How do I change my privacy settings?

A: You can choose a privacy setting on each opinion you share in the app. When sharing or editing your opinion you will have the option to set that opinion as either Private or Public. A public opinion will be visible to all users in the app and can be shared on other social networks.

Privately shared opinions will only be visible to you, but your votes will still be counted anonymously in the public opinion. For more information please refer to our Privacy Policy.

Q: What should I do when someone harasses me through private chat in the app?

A: If you experience harassment, threats, or any other inappropriate behavior in a private chat we recommend that you block the user immediately and report the problem to us.

To block a private chat, make sure you have your conversation with that user open and tap the icon at the top right of the screen. Once a private chat is blocked, you will no longer receive any notifications for incoming messages from that user. You won’t be able to view your chat history with that user or send them a new message. If you change your mind and want to unblock the user, you can open the private chat with them and tap the icon at the top right of the screen again. Once a chat is unblocked, all historical messages will be re-loaded and you will be able to send new message to that user again.

You can report the problem by sending a private chat message in the app directly to the Votopin official account (screen name “Votopin”), or email us at support@votopin.com.

Q: What should I do if I see something inappropriate in the app?

A: If you see any inappropriate content in the app we recommend that you flag the content immediately. On every topic and opinion there is an option to report content by tapping the flag icon at the top right of the screen.

Once reported, the topic or opinion in question will be submitted to us for review and be removed if the content is deemed inappropriate.

You can report any other problems or inappropriate behavior by sending a private chat message in the app directly to the Votopin official account (screen name “Votopin”), or by emailing us at support@votopin.com.

Q: Why can’t I sign in with Facebook?

A: If you were already a Votopin user before the launch of Votopin 2.0, you may run into a little snag upon login if you were registered with Facebook. You may receive a message like this: “This Facebook account is not associated with any Votopin account.”

Getting around this little glitch is easy. While on the app’s login screen, tap “Forgot Password” and request a temporary password- make sure to use the email associated with your Facebook account. After you’ve logged into Votopin with your temporary password, go to account settings where you can change your password and enable Facebook account Login.

Q: I can’t find a topic I’m looking for, what should I do?

A: To find existing topics in the app you can browse Latest, Featured or Subscribed topics from the Topics tab. For a more detailed search you can either pull down to search topics by keyword, or tap the filter icon (top right) to search by categories and hashtags. Topics are also accessible when viewing individual opinions and profiles.

If you still can’t locate the topic that you’re looking for, you can create your own! From the Home screen tap the pencil icon at the bottom of the screen to get started. Please see below for information on how to create your own topic!

If you have any further questions or suggestions about topics in the app you can connect with us on Facebook, Twitter, or email the editorial team at support@votopin.com.

Q: How do I create a new topic?

A: Creating your own topics is one of the great new features available in Votopin 2.0! We wrote a post “How To Write Your First Topic” to guide you the first time. Once you give it a try, you will find out how easy it is to share great content in Votopin and collect opinions from our community.

Q: Why can’t I edit or make changes to a topic once I’ve created it?

A: Once a topic is submitted you will not be able to make any changes or edits.

Once opinions have been shared on a topic, we will start collecting opinions on the topic immediately. Any changes to the content, questions or answers of that topic may inadvertently alter the nature of the opinions.

Q: Why can’t I edit or make changes to a topic once I’ve created it?

A: Once opinions have been shared on a topic, we will start collecting opinions on the topic immediately. Any changes to the content, questions or answers of that topic may inadvertently alter the nature of the opinions.

Q: How do I share topics?

A: When viewing any topic you will see a share icon at the bottom right of the screen. You can share topics to Facebook, Twitter, via email and SMS text message and a several other ways.

Q: I was notified that my topic has been flagged. What should I do?

A: This means that your topic has been reported as inappropriate by another user or by the Votopin Team. We will review the content and either re-publish the topic or remove it at our discretion. For more information about what may be deemed inappropriate content please refer to our Terms of Use. If you believe your topic is flagged wrongfully, please email us at support@votopin.com.

Q: How can I delete a topic?

A: You can’t edit or delete a topic once it is published. You can however, flag a topic and it will be temporarily unpublished while our editorial team reviews it. If a topic needs to be removed permanently for legal reasons, please email us at support@votopin.com.

Q: How do I share my opinions?

A: First, find a topic that you care about. Once in that topic tap the “V” at the bottom of the screen to create your opinion! Photos and comments are optional, but please make sure you’ve answered all of the questions before posting your opinion.

If you would like to share your Votopin opinions outside of the app you can do so by sharing to Facebook, Twitter, via email and SMS text message and a several other ways. When viewing any topic you will see a share icon at the bottom right of the screen.

Q: Why am I required to use a photo with my caption and vice versa?

A: We require comments and photos to be used together because opinions are stronger when you can show what you think and how you feel! We want to create a way for your opinions to be fully understood. That means both what you think (through questions and comments) and how you feel (communicated best through a spot-on facial expression!). We encourage visual, creative, thoughtful, and personal opinions in Votopin!

Q: How can I delete my opinions?

A: Opinions cannot be deleted from the app at this point.

However, you can always edit your opinions or change the privacy setting on any opinion you’ve shared.

Privately shared opinions will only be visible to you, but your votes will still be counted anonymously in the public opinion. For more information please refer to our Privacy Policy.

Q: How do I comment on opinions?

A: No, that’s not something the app facilitates at the moment.

If you have a thought about another’s opinion we encourage you to find the topic and share your own! What better way to comment than to make your opinion count too?

You can also start a conversation with other users with the private chat feature.

Q: I was notified that my opinion has been flagged. What should I do?

A: This means that your opinion has been reported as inappropriate by another user or by the Votopin Team. We will review the content and either re-publish the topic or remove it at our discretion. For more information about what may be deemed inappropriate content please refer to our Terms of Use.

Q: Why do I only have a Likeness Score with certain people?

A: If you don’t see a likeness score with certain people it is because you don’t have enough opinions on common topics in a given category. To see a Likeness Score between you and any other user in the app you must share opinions on the same 2 or 3 topics in a category.

To find out what someone else has shared on, view their profile and tap the round Likeness Score circle to see all the topics they have shared their opinion on in that category. To get a Likeness Score, share your opinion on those topics too! The app will calculate the Likeness Score within 10 seconds.

If you want to see a Likeness Score between you and another user in the app, but they do not have enough opinions in a given category, you may share topic with them via social networks, email and several other ways!

Q: How do I improve my Likeness Scores?

A: The more opinions you and others share on common topics, the more accurate your Likeness Score will be!

Q: How do I enter a sweepstakes?

A: To enter a sweepstakes you must open the particular sweepstakes you wish to participate in on the app. Tap “Enter to Win” at the bottom of the screen, and then tap “Okay” if you agree with the Official Rules. Once you tap Okay, your opinions on eligible topics during the promotion period will be automatically counted as entries to that sweepstakes.

Q: How will I know if I’ve won a sweepstakes?

A: We will contact all winners via email within 5 days of the end of the promotional period. Once the winner is confirmed, we will announce them on our website.

Q: Are opinions that I’ve shared in the past eligible?

A: No, unfortunately all of your existing opinions will not be eligible for entry into a sweepstakes if shared before the before the promotional period and/or the activation of your entries. Editing or modifying an existing opinion does not change that opinion’s eligibility.

Q: Can I be entered into more than one sweepstakes at a time?

A: Absolutely! You may be entered in as many sweepstakes as you are eligible for. And even better, if you share your opinion on a topic that qualifies for more than one sweepstakes, that opinion will be counted in each sweepstakes it is eligible for!
